How to watch movies on Google Meet, and a better way
Everyone has Google Meet, so it's the first thing people try for a long-distance movie night. Here's exactly how to do it, its limits, and why a watch-together room works better for movies.

Inviting friends to a Kinoo room to watch together
Text chat inside a Kinoo room while watching together
How to watch a movie on Google Meet
Join the meeting in Chrome, click Present now and choose A tab. Pick the tab playing the movie and tick Also share tab audio so the sound comes through. Others now see the movie in the meeting.
The problem with Meet for movies
Meet is built for meetings. The picture is sent from your connection and compressed like a video call, so dark and fast scenes blur, and when your internet slows down everyone falls behind.
Better: full quality for everyone
In Kinoo the movie streams directly to each person and only the playback position is shared. Quality doesn't depend on one person's internet and the movie's sound doesn't mix with the call.
Keep Meet for talking
If your group likes to talk on Meet, stay there and watch the movie in a Kinoo room, or use the room's own voice chat, which opens with the room owner's Basic plan or higher.
How to get started
- 1
Create a Kinoo room
Put the movie link in the room.
- 2
Share the link in the meeting
Paste the room link into the Meet chat.
- 3
Watch in sync
Everyone watches at full quality, at the same moment.
Frequently asked questions
Why is there no sound when I share a movie on Google Meet?
Present A tab and tick Also share tab audio. Presenting your whole screen or a window usually doesn't send audio.
Can two people watch a movie on Google Meet from phones?
Tab sharing with audio works best in desktop Chrome. On phones, a Kinoo room in the mobile browser is simpler.
Does Kinoo replace Google Meet?
For movies, yes: synced full-quality playback, text chat and (with a plan) voice chat in one room.
